Access and Admission of Students

Access Requirements

To access the Master’s Degree in Artistic Education in Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage in Europe, applicants must hold prior training in conservation and restoration (MECES Level 2 / EQF Level 6), accredited by possession of one of the following degrees:

Official Higher Degree equivalent to a Bachelor’s level:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Higher Artistic Education in Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage.

  • Higher Degree in Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage.

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Conservation and Restoration.

  • Equivalent degree issued by an institution within the European Higher Education Area that qualifies the holder for access to Master’s-level education in the country of issuance.

  • Equivalent degree from a higher education institution outside the European Higher Education Area, without the need for official recognition, provided that the competent educational authority verifies that the qualification certifies an equivalent level of training. Admission through this route will not, under any circumstances, imply official recognition of the applicant’s degree beyond access to Master’s-level artistic education.

Other higher education degrees:

  • Degree in Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage (equivalent to a university diploma).

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts with a specialization or concentration in conservation and restoration.

Language proficiency will be assessed, as it is essential for facilitating student mobility and enabling participation in international internships.

Some subjects may require prior knowledge in specific areas or specializations (see the module, subject, and course descriptions, as well as the course guides).

Admission Criteria and Candidate Profile

The Master’s Degree in Artistic Education in Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage in Europe is aimed at graduates in conservation and restoration, holding MECES Level 2 or EQF Level 6 qualifications, who wish to expand their competencies through advanced and multidisciplinary training. This training promotes the initiation into research activities and fosters integration into the conservation-restoration profession in an international, particularly European, context.

The Master’s curriculum builds upon the content of the studies leading to the Higher Degree in Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage taught at ESCRBC (Decree 33/2011), and thus equivalent prior training must be accredited. This requirement is not only essential to ensure students’ success in the program but is also necessary so that graduates can demonstrate training aligned with the standards required for professional practice in neighboring countries.

To ensure that students’ academic background is suited to the program and that the competencies acquired are in line with international standards for Master’s-level conservation-restoration professionals, their previous knowledge must align with the core contents established by the Spanish Ministry of Education for higher artistic education at the bachelor’s level in Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage (Royal Decree 635/2010).

A B2 level of language proficiency is recommended to support student mobility and enable participation in international internships.
