Admission Requirements

Access Requirements for the Master’s Degree in Artistic Education in Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage in Europe include the need to possess prior training in conservation and restoration (MECES Level 2 / EQF Level 6), accredited by holding one of the following titles:

1. Official Higher Degree equivalent to a Bachelor’s degree level:
   • Bachelor’s Degree in Higher Artistic Education in Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage.
   • Higher Degree in Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage.
   • Bachelor’s Degree in Conservation and Restoration.
2. Equivalent degree issued by an institution within the European Higher Education Area that qualifies for access to Master’s programs in the issuing country.
3. Equivalent degree from a non-European Higher Education Institution without the need for homologation, subject to verification by the competent educational authority that it attests to an equivalent level of education. Access through this route does not imply the homologation or recognition of the previous degree for purposes other than pursuing Master’s artistic education.
4. Other higher degrees:
   • Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage (equivalent to a university diploma).
   • Bachelor of Fine Arts with specialization or track in conservation and restoration.

Proficiency in languages will be assessed, essential for facilitating student mobility and enabling participation in external internships abroad. Additionally, certain subjects may require prior training in specific areas or specialties.

Admission

For admission to the Master’s program, applicants must complete the pre-registration form (downloadable from the ESCRBC website and also available at the ESCRBC Secretary’s office) and must accompany it with the following mandatory documentation:

1. Copy of the identification document (ID card, passport, NIE, or identity card).
2. Curriculum vitae (CV) including academic achievements (GPA, other degrees and relevant courses or training), experience related to the program content, and language proficiency.
3. Academic degree or proof of having applied for it.
4. Transcript of records listing subjects taken, credits (or hours), and grades obtained for each subject.
5. Certification of other claimed merits (degrees, language certificates, courses, professional experience, etc.).
6. Motivation letter written by the applicant. It should explain the reasons (academic, professional, personal) for pursuing this Master’s program and include contact information (email address and phone number) for possible interviews.

Applicants from other countries must demonstrate proficiency in the Spanish language.

The form should be completed, saved as a PDF, and submitted along with the enumerated documents in a single compressed file (ZIP or RAR) to the email address master@escrbc.com.

In addition to the required documentation for pre-registration, the Master’s Academic Committee may request additional specific documentation. This documentation can be submitted scanned or deposited at the Center’s Secretary within the established deadlines.

Original documentation will be required for verification prior to enrollment.

Pre-registration: online, until November 30, 2023.

Interviews with applicants: between December 11 and 15, 2023 (tentative dates).

Admission Criteria. Profile

The Master’s program in Artistic Education in Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage in Europe is aimed at graduates in conservation and restoration, holding a level 2 of MECES or level 6 of the European Qualifications Framework (EQF), who wish to expand their competencies through advanced and multidisciplinary training. This program aims to promote initiation into research tasks and enhance integration as conservation and restoration professionals in an international, especially European, context.

The Master’s curriculum builds upon the content of the studies leading to the Higher Degree in Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage offered at ESCRBC (Decree 33/2011), thus requiring equivalent prior education. This requirement ensures that students can effectively benefit from the program and enables graduates to demonstrate a consistent level of training aligned with professional requirements in neighboring countries.

To ensure that students’ knowledge levels align with international standards for conservation and restoration professionals at the Master’s level, prior knowledge must correspond to the basic content established by the Ministry of Education for higher artistic education in Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage at the bachelor’s degree level (Royal Decree 635/2010). If necessary, additional training may be required to acquire missing competencies.

Prior knowledge in “Professional management and organization,” “Conservation-restoration projects,” and “Research methodology and documentation” is particularly relevant, as the Master’s program specifically expands on these subjects compared to the preceding degree.

Proficiency in languages at the B2 level is recommended to facilitate student mobility and enable participation in external internships abroad.

For access to certain subjects, specific prior knowledge may be required.

In case of a tie, priority will be given based on the order of pre-registration.
