Entrance Exam: Structure

Specific Entrance Exam for Bachelor’s Degree Studies in Higher Artistic Education in Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage at ESCRBC

The specific entrance exam for the Bachelor’s Degree studies in Higher Artistic Education in Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage at ESCRBC will be common to all specializations and will consist of 2 exercises:

First Exercise:

  • Format: Written and theoretical
  • Duration: Maximum of 2 hours
  • Content: The exam will cover the contents of one of the following high school subjects: Art History, Physics, Chemistry, or Biology.
  • Structure: The exercise will present ten topics: four from Art History, two from Physics, two from Chemistry, and two from Biology. The applicant will choose one topic. Along with the development of the topic, an outline of the content and a final summary highlighting the main conclusions or concepts of the topic must be included. Besides specific knowledge, this exercise will assess the relationship of these topics with general or multidisciplinary knowledge, appropriate use of language, synthesis ability, and general education related to the field of cultural heritage.

The first exercise will be scored from 0 to 10. The grade will be expressed with two decimal places rounded to the nearest hundredth, and in case of equidistance, to the higher value. The first exercise will be considered passed if the score obtained is equal to or greater than 5 points.

Second Exercise:

  • Format: Practical
  • Duration: Maximum of 6 hours
  • Parts:
  1. Practical Aptitude: This part will consist of a practical exercise where the specific aptitudes required for the studies in Conservation and Restoration of Cultural Heritage will be assessed. Dexterity, precision, and thoroughness in the execution of the work will be evaluated. The maximum duration for this part is 2 hours.
  2. Color Representation: This part will involve an exercise on color representation. The correct application of techniques and the understanding of color values and qualities will be considered. The maximum duration for this part is 2 hours.
  3. Drawing: This part will involve making a naturalistic drawing from a live, inanimate model. Fidelity in representation, quality of graphics, precision, and finish of the work will be assessed. The maximum duration for this part is 4 hours.

Each part of the second exercise will be scored from 0 to 10 points. The overall score for the second exercise will be the arithmetic mean of the scores obtained in its parts and will be expressed with 2 decimal places rounded to the nearest hundredth, and in case of equidistance, to the higher value. The second exercise will be considered passed if the score thus obtained is equal to or greater than 5 points.

To pass the specific entrance exam, it is necessary to pass both exercises. The final score of the specific entrance exam will be the weighted average of the scores obtained in both exercises, with the first exercise accounting for 40% and the second for 60%. This final score will be expressed in numerical terms, using a scale from zero to ten, with 2 decimal places, rounded to the nearest hundredth, and in case of equidistance, to the higher value. A final score of 5 or higher will be required to pass the entrance exam.
